Bowlers & Homburgs

Our range of Bowler Hats include Fur Felt Bowler Hats, Wool Felt Bowler Hats, Devon Riding Bowler Hats through to Lightweight Fashion Bowlers. Bowler hats are sometimes referred to as Bob Hats, Bombins or Derbys. They are a stiff felt hat with a round crown. Originally a protective hat for Game Keepers, they became popular with the working classes in the Victorian era and also became popular with railway workers during the 1920's.  Bowler hats were also worn by former officers of the Queens Guard. In the 20th Century, they were associated with business men and city gents from the financial districts. They were famously worn by Laurel & Hardy and Charlie Chaplin. We also have a small selection of Homburg Hats (famously worn by Sir Winston Churchill). They are similar to bowlers with the short upturned brim but have a centre dent crown rather than a rounded crown.
